What is holistic dentistry and what is different about it?

Holistic dentistry takes into account a broader spectrum of the client's health, not just the mouth and teeth.Holistic dentistry uses a biological approach, alternative and complementary approaches.

Why are amalgams bad?

Amalgams contain mercury, which is recognized by the EPA as a toxic substance.

What is the difference between having amalgams removed in this office as opposed to any other office?

We use safety precautions such as special suctions and medical air. Dr. Riketts has advanced training in biological dentistry and provides homoeopathic support.

If you don't use amalgams, what do you use for fillings?

There are various composite materials including indirect restorations like porcelain onlays and inlays.

Why do you not use fluoride?

We do not use fluoride because it is toxic substance with known side effects

How do your fees vary from other dentist's fees?

Our basic fees are in line with the BC College of Dental Surgeons. For crowns and bridges, we charge a slightly higher price due to the cost of the special materials we use and our state-of-the-art technology.

What else does Dr. Ricketts do besides remove amalgams and biological dentistry?

We operate a complete family dental practice.

ALLOPATHIC:Therapy with remedies that produce effects differing from those of the disease being treated. A system of treating disease by inducing a pathologic reaction that is antagonistic to the disease being treated.

PHYTOTHERAPY: The use of biologically active plant substances.

PROBIOTIC:Favoring the support of life, relating to the promotion of life and life conditions.

STANDARD: An acknowledged measure of comparison for quantitative or qualitative value; norm.

TENETS:The principles or doctrines held in common by members of an organized group. Tenets are opinions, doctrines, principles or dogma held by a person or organization.
