Neways Humanitarian Award
NEWAYS IS A COMPANY FULL OF HEROES.
Every distributor, though they
may not feel particularly heroic, makes a profound difference as they
bring the Neways mission to the world. Beyond that, however, there are
some distributors who go above and beyond the call of duty to serve
humanity.
Dr. Riko Ricketts has distinguished
himself through his commitment to humanitarian endeavors. As a recipient
of the 2001 Neways Humanitarian Award, he embodies the Neways mission
through his charity, service, and compassion. Without seeking recognition
or praise, he is one of the a quiet heroes who changes lives and makes
the world a better place.
In the previous issue of Prime
Time, we featured cc-recipients of the Humanitarian Award, Dr. Joel
Singer and Cathy Lok. In this Issue, we highlight the work of Dr. Riko
Ricketts.
For nearly half of his career, Dr.
Riko Ricketts practiced traditional dentistry. Then, twelve years ago,
he made a dramatic decision based on a series of books and studies that
he had read.
"I because a champion of holistic
dentistry'' Dr. Ricketts says. I view the health of the mouth in context
to the health of the whole body. Further, I am committed to educating
the world about the horrors of using materials like fluoride and mercury
in your health. Twelve years ago, l decided not to use those harmful
ingredients in my mouth, my family's mouth, or the mouths of my patients.
Fluoride exists in natural form
as calcium fluoride. The type of Fluoride that is used withier dentistry,
however, is not the natural form. "It is tile by product of tile aluminum
and fertilizer industries,'' Dr. Ricketts says. "So you end up with
sodium fluoride or some type of silico-fluoro-phosophate. The latter
has been demonstrated to cause osteosarcoma, which is one of the most
rare bone cancers. Fluoride also has the ability to enhance lead uptake.
It can: also reduce testosterone levels in young boys, and it can result
in aberrant behavior like hyperactivity.''
Rather than using potentially harmful
chemicals in the mouth, Dr. Ricketts promotes nutrition as a way to
maintain dental health. Reduce sugar intake from junk food and candy.
Don't drink soda pop-it has an impact on acid/base balance and phosphate
levels, plus it ants as a leeching agent. Increase protein and essential
fatty acid intake. Make sure that you get enough Coenzyme Q10 and trace
minerals.
It wasn't long ago that Dr. Ricketts
discovered an ally in his holistic approach to dentistry -Neways. Both
Neways and he share similar missions. Neways has a commitment and a
mandate to eliminate harmful chemicals from personal care products''
Dr. Ricketts says. Dentists, while well intentioned, have done more
harm than good by using substances like fluoride, sodium laurel sulfate,
glycerin, and t00th colors. All the Neways dental products are things
that I can recommend without reservation knowing that people are going
to benefit from them. Plus there's all the other products in the nutritional
line that help people have better hea1th generally, which affects the
health of the mouth.''
In his quest to change tile world,
Dr. Ricketts' does public speaking, writes articles for various magazines
and journals, and makes appearances on radio shows. In his dental practice,
as well as in his educational efforts, Dr. Ricketts is making a difference
in the health and well-being of others.
